Netball Scottish Schools Cup

AHS V Grantown Grammar School

Following a rough night on the boat, AHS set off with a good mindset after arriving at the RGU sports facility in Aberdeen to compete in the knockout stage of the Scottish Schools netball competition.

Competing first with the girls from Grantown grammar who picked up first centre to kick off the game. The first quarter really set the tone for the match with impressive shooting from Grantown which had to be matched with tight defence from Ellie Bisset at GK and Lauren Sandison at GD. Concluding the first quarter at 18-10 with AHS in the lead.

The pressure was on going into the second quarter for AHS to keep up there fitness to stay in the lead. A switch up in positions for the shooters allowed Sadie Fox to come on at GA being one of the youngest in the team it wasn’t easy to but she still managed to score impressive shots to secure AHS’s lead by a further 12 goals.

Things were switched up a lot going in to the 3rd quarter, Lois philips who’s typically a mid courter stepped up and went to GD to put the pressure on Grantowns strong shooters. Not only that but Tahlia Leslie who tends to shoot went into WA to offer extra support through out the court. These changes proved to be effective as it pushed up AHS’s lead up to 18 more than Grantowns score.

In the final quarter tensions were high, Cara Montgomery stepped up to play Centre and set a strong tone for the last part of the game. With herself working extremely well with the rest of the midcourters to push the ball up to the shooting circle to give more opportunities for extra goals. Grantown Grammar put up a good fight and gave AHS a run for their money but by the end of the match AHS managed to secure their lead and end up with the final score of 56-25 to them. Winning this match allowed AHS to move on to the next stage of the competition to play Mackie.

AHS Vs Mackie Academy

After a good win against Grantown, AHS came into their second game with feeling ready for a competitive match against Mackie.

The first quarter started with Ellie Bisset and Lauren Sandison keeping the scores tight in defence. With some fast driving up the court and strong feeds into the end third, Sonja Kurtz managed to successfully keep the ball in our possession to gain AHS some goals through the tough Mackie defenders, resulting in the final score of the first quarter being 12-8 to Mackie.

Going into the second quarter, AHS were determined to turn over the score. A few changes were made, to give some extra height and interceptions in the defence circle, Lois Phillips came on as GD to give lauren sandison a break to prepare herself for the competitive and hard working last half of the game. The shooting circle changed as Sadie Fox came in to provide some fresh legs. Mackie’s were still holding a slight lead, leaving AHS more determined for the third quarter.

The next quarter begun with Isla Murphy coming on for Cara Montgomery at WD and Lois Phillips moving up from GD into C position. Tahlia Leslie moved into WA to provide some speedy passes into the circle. Estella Smith came on as GS and successfully scored some accurate shots along by Sadie Fox to bring the score closer. Isla Murphy keeping on her feet managed to make some interceptions giving AHS possession of the ball. AHS’s defence Ellie Bisset and Lauren Sandison played extremely well trying there best to keep the score as close as possible. Third quarter ended in 31-37 to Mackie.

AHS started the final quarter with their heads held high. Not many changes were made, Cameron Johnson got came on for Lois Phillips at C. She provided some accurate passes into the attacking circle. Estella Smith and Sadie Fox still shooting managed to maintain pace and accurate shooting through the whole quarter. Isla Murphy still playing strong at WD, helping to keep the ball in AHS’s favour with help from defenders Ellie Bisset and Lauren Sandison. Tahlia Leslie at WA maintaining speed throughout the whole quarter helping to get the ball to AHS’s shooters. AHS managed to score 2 goals in the final minute bringing the score to 51-44 to Mackie.
